What does a good Section F in an EHCP look like?
Section F of an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) should contain specific details of the special educational provision to meet all of the special educational needs specified in Section B of the EHCP.
The provision set out in Section F of the EHCP must be detailed and specific. The only relevant issue is whether the provision is required to meet the child’s needs (not whether resources or services are locally available). If the contents of Section F are unclear it is possible that the special educational provision will not be delivered in the right quantity, by the right person or even at all.
Independent SEND Consultant Garry Freeman looks at what factors make for a good, lawful, purposeful and impactful Section F and why that is the case. His training session also clarifies the legal requirements around Section F and what actions a school can take to try to make Section F lawful and impactful.

Really useful session. Gary presents clearly and the references to law are so helpful. It makes me question why the legal training is not a mandatory thing for people working in this sector of education when it is so key.

Very informative, perfect delivery and great question and answer opportunity at the end. Relevant and related to the real-life issues and challenges schools face every day.
Thank you

Amazing but also frightening as to how we are being manipulated and lied to by SEN Services about what our duty actually is. When my LA changed the process of Annual Reviews some time ago now, I raised the fact that they wanted us to make amendments to the plan and they just said it was the new Code of Practice (previously we annotated by hand on a photocopy and sent it in but they never did anything with it and no AFPs were ever issued making the whole process very complicated). They now have us track changing the whole document and sending it into them!
I never fancied a career in law which is why I went into teaching, now realising that I really need to read up on all of this urgently.
Thank you

I highly recommend this session if schools want to look more closely at ensuring section F’s in their EHCP’s meet the needs of learners. Garry was highly informative in showing us how we can ensure that the very best provisions are in place and that ‘law trumps everything.’
