SENCO workload – a focus on thriving in the role
Research by Dr Helen Curran highlights the challenges SENCOs face regarding time to complete the role, and others understanding of it.
Dr Geraldene Codina addresses these challenges and explores ways to manage SENCO workload. This includes separating out SENCO, Curriculum Leader and Teacher workloads as well as focusing on SENCO wellbeing, resilience and time management.
This session is aimed at Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCOs), Aspiring SENCOs, Class teachers and Curriculum leaders working with children with SEND.
3 takeaways from Geraldene’s training session
– Reflect on your setting’s implementation of the SEND Code of Practice (DfE and DoH, 2014) graduated response – does the graduated response clearly identify teachers’ graduated responses, curriculum leaders’ graduated responses –
– Work with SLT in your setting to find time to discuss everyone’s roles and responsibilities in relation to inclusion and SEND –
– Develop a SEND calendar (perhaps in the form of a gantt chart) that details the key activities that take place over the course of an academic year that relate to children and young people with SEND –
