A nurturing environment: in and beyond the classroom
Garry Freeman looks at the key principles and practice of a nurturing approach to a learning environment.
Underpinning this is the concept and practice of a ‘nurture group’. These are well established in infant and primary settings, less so in secondary and tertiary ones. He discusses how we can have an appropriately nurturing environment in settings for older students, particularly in respect of the demands of different areas of the curriculum.
3 takeaways from Garry’s training session
– how a nurture approach can benefit your school and needs to closely involve pupils/students and their parents/carers –
– the importance of a nurturing environment to fostering learning by meeting needs –
– how you can apply such a nurture approach across a whole setting –
This session is aimed at SENDCos, Inclusion Leaders, senior leadership, key stage/area/subject leaders, class/subject teachers working with children with SEND.
