Understanding and using Assistive Technology
Following the pandemic and associated lockdowns, use of technology in education has become much more commonplace. Despite this, knowledge about how Assistive Technology (AT) can be used to overcome barriers to learning and promote independence, as well as support teaching, is still not widely known.
This session shows that whilst Assistive Technology is essential for some, it is also beneficial for all.

About the Creator
Michael Surr / Education Officer, nasen
Michael Surr is an Education Officer with nasen, with a background in primary education both in the UK and abroad. He has worked as a class teacher, SENCo and Deputy Head. Since beginning his career in education he has had a keen interest in SEN, ICT and equalities issues. From 2008 Michael worked for a Local Authority as part of the leadership team of a SEND advisory service. This gave him the opportunity to broaden his experience into Early Years and Secondary. The role involved working with schools and settings to help them develop their provision for children and young people with SEN.
