**The Government published the green paper SEND Review: Right support, right place, right time on 29 March 2022**
It sets out proposals for a SEND and alternative provision system that offers children and young people the opportunity to thrive, with access to the right support, in the right place, and at the right time, so they can fulfil their potential and lead happy, healthy and productive adult lives. The Department for Education is now undertaking a public consultation on the green paper’s proposals. Make sure you have your say!

What changes will the send review make?
This extract from an open letter to Parents and Carers of children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities gives us some clues…
“Based on what we have heard and the evidence we have gathered, we know that it is important that proposals offer a way forward to reduce local variation.
We also need to improve early intervention, make clearer the support and services everyone should be able to expect, and have funding and accountability systems in place which support this.”

What you need to know about the SEND review?
The SEND Review was launched in September 2019. Its aim was to review the SEND reforms introduced in 2014. Delayed by the global pandemic, it was finally published on 29th March 2022.
On 3 May, in a FREE live online broadcast, Lorraine outlined the content of the SEND Review and the implications for schools, young people and their families.

About lorraine petersen
Lorraine has 25 years’ experience in mainstream and special schools as a Teacher and Headteacher.
From 2004 – 2013 Lorraine was CEO of nasen, a charitable organisation supporting all those who work with children and young people with SEND. She worked on a number of projects with various agencies including the Department for Education, the National College of Teaching and Leadership and UKTI. She has also been a chair, keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at numerous national and international events and conferences. In 2009 Lorraine was awarded an OBE for her services to education.
